Facts to consider

When selecting suitable curtain types, it’s better to find the one that suits your requirements. Following are some points to take into consideration when selecting curtains.

1. Color

You can add a uniqueness to every room by selecting a color that goes along with the theme of the house. Using vibrant colors for a dull themed house will lose its’ character. Always try to match with your interior color tone. Having too much sunlight tend to make the colors fade. So, its’ better to stay away from such colors. And if you are a natural light loving person, better to use sheer curtains than solid ones and vice versa for the natural light haters.

2. Fabric

The chosen fabric comes in various types. Linen, silk and velvet are some of the types. Durability is the most important matter. Unless you plan on changing drapes every year, better to purchase something that withstand the heat, moisture, and dust. Every fabric deteriorates. But the time differs. So, choose wisely.

And, the fabrics can be single or multicolored or with patterns. Selecting patterns is also hard because the pattern you choose, determines the amount of attention it gets. Simple neutral prints are always a good choice than a bold vibrant print whether its’ floral, leafy, dotted or etc.

And also, if you have solid colour furniture, patterned curtain types suit really well. But if you have patterned furniture, stick with plain solid coloured curtains.

3. Measurements

When it comes to measuring the window size, you must determine the location of the hanging rods or tracks. six to eight inches above your window is said to be the general distance to the rod from the top of the window. Then from that point you have to measure the height to the bottom of the window and add few more inches to the measurement. Width differs from four to eight inches This allows to manage the amount of light entering the room. Whether you want the curtains to the floor or a little bit shorter than the floor length depends upon the functionality of the curtain in the selected area.

4. Accessories

Know the accessories needed when setting up curtains. If you have a doorway with a curtain across, and if the possibility of that doorway being used overtime is high, you should think about using tie backs. You can tie them to a single side or to both sides symmetrically. Sometimes it can be centered as well. This way you can prevent the curtain from being ruined. Tie backs can either be just fabric strip or a tasselled for a more pop up look.

When it comes to hanging curtains, here are two main types of hangers. One is the classic rod which goes horizontally above the frame where loops are used to hang the curtain. Other one is the track where hooks are used to hang the curtain. Curtain brackets are used to hold the rods in them. You can choose them from various design types and material types.
