The project, Helium – The Box Office is a renovation to an existing building. The site is located in a highly dense area in Colombo and surrounded by middle and high rise buildings.

Task was to design a unique office in a site extent of 1450Sqft within a wall of a highly urban area in Colombo. The site being a rented space the clients key requirement was to create an office & studio space that provides space for both printing and advertising.

The Synthesis of reuse and robustness

The reused GI pipes, reused wooden palettes and plants make a perfect synthesis creating a unique exterior and interior.

Within the busy urban context with surrounded by solid middle and high rise buildings this façade stand out with its scale , unique light weight structure with the combination of wood, steel and greenery.

The interior layout of Helium – The Box Office is done in such a way that the main axis of the space is celebrated and connected with other spaces around. The main axis is highlighted as a “Green path “ by introducing a new ceiling and the greenery was spread throughout.

The Existing plastered walls were exposed and the graphics on the exposed brick walls make a perfect synthesis. All the work stations are made out of GI structure which connects each other and each of them facilitates with individual storage space. Each work station consists of custom made light fittings and electrical lines are exposed colored PVC pipes.
